Beijing, Feb 29: The capital of China, Beijing has been confirmed as the host city for the 2027 World Athletics Championships by the World Athletics Council.
According to a statement from World Athletics, “The decision was made at the 234th World Athletics Council Meeting, held in Glasgow ahead of the World Athletics Indoor Championships (1-3 March)”.
“The 2027 World Athletics Championships will welcome the sport’s biggest stars back to Beijing, 12 years on from the Chinese capital’s successful staging of athletics’ flagship event and almost two decades on from the Beijing Olympic Games,” the statement added.

Almost two decades after Beijing successfully hosted the 2008 Summer Olympics and the 2022 Winter Games, the decision marks a significant return of the athletics world to Beijing.
Next year’s World Athletics Indoor Championships will also be hosted by China, in Nanjing.
Beijing’s winning candidacy was praised by World Athletics President Sebastian Coe, who pointed to the city’s previous experience hosting the 15th edition of the championships and China’s prominence as a major sports market.
