New Delhi, September 6: Wrestlers Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia officially joined the Congress party on Friday. Before joining the party, they visited Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s residence.
Both athletes have joined the Congress right before the Haryana Assembly elections. There had been speculation for some time that Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia might join the Congress party.
Two days ago, both of them also met Rahul Gandhi. Political corridors are abuzz with speculation that Vinesh Phogat may be given a ticket from Dadri.
Sources indicate that Bajrang Punia is unlikely to run in the Assembly elections. Instead, he is expected to be appointed as the co-chairman of the Haryana Congress campaign committee for the upcoming Haryana Assembly polls. Vinesh Phogat, on the other hand, will be contesting the election, with her constituency to be decided by the end of the day.

Bajrang, Vinesh resign from Indian Railways
Before joining the Congress on Friday, Olympian wrestlers Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia resigned from their posts in the Indian Railways.
Vinesh announced on her official X account that she has resigned from her position with Indian Railways.
“At this juncture in my life, I have decided to separate myself from the railway service and have submitted my resignation to the competent authorities of Indian Railways. I will always be thankful to the Indian Railways family for giving me the opportunity to serve the nation,” she posted on X.

In his resignation letter, Bajrang expressed his gratitude to Northern Railways for their support and guidance.
“I had joined this esteemed service on 13th September, 2014. I am grateful to the Northern Railways for the guidance offered to me in my professional career and I also express my heartfelt gratitude to all who those have worked with me in all my capacities during the course of my employment in the Northern Railways,” Bajrang stated in the letter.
“I wish to tender my resignation from my post of OSD Sports, Northern Railways and request you to relieve me of my duties thereto. I have decided to tender my resignation on account of personal reasons and circumstances at my home. I have already informed you verbally regarding this,” he added.
