XLRI Jamshedpur kicks off X-FECT cricket tournament

 

Jamshedpur, Nov 29: XLRI Jamshedpur launched the third edition of the Fr. Enright Memorial Cricket Tournament (X-FECT 2025–26) at the XLRI Grounds on Saturday, setting the stage for a spirited blend of cricket and community service.

Organised under the theme “Play for a Cause,” the tournament aims to promote sportsmanship while raising funds for social welfare initiatives.

The inauguration drew participation from faculty, staff, students, alumni and campus associates.

The ceremony began with the unveiling of the tournament trophy, followed by the opening match between Security Staff and Maintenance Staff — Eagles vs Panthers.

Speaking on the occasion, Fr. Donald D’Silva, SJ, Dean of Administration and Finance, highlighted the event’s deeper purpose.

“X-FECT is not just about cricket; it reflects XLRI’s long-standing commitment to service and solidarity. The funds raised will be used for charitable work, encouraging those who ‘have’ to support those who ‘do not have,’” he said.

This year’s tournament features 12 men’s teams and 4 women’s teams, bringing together more than 240 amateur players from across the XLRI community.

Matches will be held on weekends and holidays, progressing through league rounds, eliminators, semifinals and the grand finale.

Top performers will be honoured in categories such as Best Bowler, Best Batsman, Highest Sixes, Player of the Tournament and overall champions.

The event was graced by Jesuit Fathers, the Director of XLRI, faculty, staff and all participating teams.

XLRI extended appreciation to sponsors and supporters for helping uphold the spirit of sport with a meaningful cause.
