XLRI launches rural startup incubator, offers ₹5 lakh grants

THE JHARKHAND STORY NETWORK

Jamshedpur, July 15: XLRI -Xavier School of Management has launched applications for the first cohort of XCITE, its Rural Business Incubator supported by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), offering grants of up to ₹5 lakh to entrepreneurs building innovative and sustainable rural enterprises.

The six-month incubation programme aims to nurture rural startups that address local challenges, create sustainable livelihoods and contribute to inclusive economic growth across eastern and north-eastern India.

Applications are open to entrepreneurs from Jharkhand, Bihar, Odisha, West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura.

According to XCITE, the programme seeks to identify and support scalable, market-driven ventures capable of delivering long-term social and economic impact in rural communities.

Priority for women and tribal-led enterprises

The incubator will give special emphasis to women-led and tribal-led startups, along with ventures working in agriculture, non-timber forest produce (NTFP), handicrafts, off-farm livelihoods, rural services, sustainability, green energy, circular economy and other rural livelihood sectors.

The initiative is designed to strengthen entrepreneurship in underserved regions while encouraging innovation tailored to rural needs.

Mentorship, funding and market access

Selected startups will participate in a six-month hybrid incubation programme, combining virtual mentoring sessions with on-campus bootcamps at XLRI Jamshedpur.

In addition to grant support of up to ₹5 lakh, participants will receive mentorship from domain experts, business model development support, market access guidance, investor and ecosystem linkages, peer learning opportunities and access to the professional networks of XLRI and NABARD.

Applications open till July 25

Launching the inaugural cohort, Ravish Vasan, CEO of XCITE, said the incubator aims to build enterprises that balance commercial success with social impact.

“XCITE aims to nurture enterprises that combine commercial viability with social impact, enabling rural communities to become active participants in India’s growth story,” he said.

Applications for the first incubation cohort are open until July 25, 2026.
