PINAKI MAJUMDAR

Jamshedpur, Dec 3: A 32-year-old youth, Shekhar Sandil, was shot dead under mysterious circumstances past midnight in Sitaramdera, Jamshedpur, with police investigating whether an ongoing dispute over an illegal liquor operation triggered the attack.

Found in a Pool of Blood Outside Home

The incident happened around 12.45 am near the Peepal School locality in Devanagar, where Shekhar lived with his family.

According to his sister, Saraswati Das, she discovered him lying outside their house in a pool of blood after returning home late at night. He was unconscious and bleeding heavily.

Neighbours immediately alerted the Sitaramdera police, who reached the spot quickly and rushed him to MGM Hospital.

Doctors later declared him dead due to excessive bleeding caused by close-range gunshot injuries.

Old Tensions With Local Youths

Shekhar worked at a private parking lot near New Court and usually returned home late after duty.

In her statement, Saraswati said Shekhar had long-standing tensions with two local youths — Rahul Singh and another known as Dablu — both residents of Devanagar. She suspected that they may have been involved in the attack.

Residents claimed that Rahul Singh has been running an illegal liquor distillery in the area, often causing disturbances.

Shekhar had reportedly opposed this activity and confronted Rahul several times, leading to heated arguments. The family also alleged that Rahul had previously threatened Shekhar.

Murder Case Registered; Police Hunt for Suspects

Police have registered a murder case and launched a manhunt for the two suspects.

A forensic team inspected the site and collected evidence, while investigators are checking CCTV footage from nearby areas.

The station in-charge said the investigation is progressing quickly and assured that those responsible will be arrested soon.
