New York, Sept 5: India’s Yuki Bhambri saw his dream run end at the US Open men’s doubles after a hard-fought semifinal defeat with partner Michael Venus.
The Indo-Kiwi pair went down 7-6(2), 6-7(5), 4-6 to Britain’s Neal Skupski and Joe Salisbury, the experienced sixth seeds.

Despite the loss, the 33-year-old Delhiite etched his name in history as only the fourth Indian man in the Open era to reach a Grand Slam doubles semifinal, following in the footsteps of Leander Paes, Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna.

For Bhambri, long hindered by injuries in singles, the finish marks a breakthrough in his doubles career.
Their campaign at Flushing Meadows had been nothing short of impressive, featuring upset wins over higher-seeded pairs, including fourth seeds Tim Putz/Kevin Krawietz and 11th seeds Rajeev Ram/Nikola Mektic.
The run not only showcased Bhambri’s growing stature on the doubles circuit but also guaranteed him a significant rankings boost.
