New Delhi, Dec 4: Lalduhoma’s ZPM (Zoram People’s Movement) looks ready to dethrone Zoramthanga’s MNF (Mizo National Front) and establish the state’s next administration during the continuing assembly election counting.
As per the Election Commission of India’s report, the ZPM party has successfully won 27 seats out of the total 40.
The incumbent MNF has secured victory in seven seats and is presently ahead in three seats. The BJP has won two seats and Congress is in lead in one seat.
Zoramthanga submitted his resignation to Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati at Raj Bhavan after the MNF’s defeat.
It was a double blow for Zoramthanga, who lost both the state and his seat in Aizawl East to rival ZPM candidate Lalthansanga. By a margin of 2,101 votes, Lalthansanga was victorious.
In the meantime, Lalduhoma, the ZPM’s nominee for chief minister, easily defeated the MNF candidate in Serchhip, winning by a margin of 2,982 votes.

After ZPM overtook the MNF with an insurmountable advantage, Lalduhoma remarked, “I am not surprised, this is what I expect… Let the full results come out… The counting process is going on.” With an absolute majority the ZPM is “likely to be” the single largest party, he added.
Mizoram which held elections on November 7 was expected to announce its results along with the four other states yesterday. However, because Sunday is particularly important to the majority-Christian population, the Election Commission postponed the counting by one day.
