₹10,000 crore treasury scam: BJP alleges cover-up, seeks CBI probe

Ranchi, April 28: BJP state spokesperson Pratul Shah Deo has alleged a cover-up by the Jharkhand government in the alleged treasury scam and demanded clarity on the missing ₹10,000 crore from the state treasury.

Pratul asked whether the missing ₹10,000 crore is linked to the alleged scam and urged the government to explain where the money has gone.

He claimed that despite media reports highlighting the issue, the government has failed to take concrete action and is instead forming “committee after committee” and “SIT after SIT” to delay the probe.

Allegations of report suppression

According to Pratul, an initial inquiry by a committee led by Finance Department Deputy Secretary Jyoti Jha found serious irregularities during a visit to Bokaro, but the report was allegedly suppressed.

He also referred to reports that ₹16 crore was withdrawn in the name of the Bokaro SP, raising further concerns.

Concerns over SIT and CID probe

Pratul questioned the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) by the CID under a police IG (Human Rights), arguing that it raises doubts about the investigation’s independence.

He also alleged a delay in the CID probe, stating that action was taken only after media coverage, which he termed an “eyewash.”

The absence of a defined timeline for the SIT investigation, he said, adds to suspicions that the matter may be pushed aside.

Demand for central agency probe

Calling the issue serious, Pratul said action should not be limited to lower-level staff but should also target the “big fish” involved.

He demanded that the case be handed over to the CBI and Enforcement Directorate (ED) for an impartial investigation.

State co-media in-charge Ashok Baraik was also present during the press briefing.
