14 years after, 5 medical colleges to get regular principals, superintendents in Jharkhand

Ranchi, Aug 7:  After 14 years, five state-owned medical colleges will get regular principals and superintendents.

The state government issued a notification in this regard on Tuesday evening.

As per the notification issued by the joint secretary of the government Lalit Mohan Shukla, the last date of applying for the post is August 7 till 12 noon.

1st regular principal/ Supt appointed in 2010

Notably, regular principals and superintendents were appointed in the state first time 14 years ago in 2010 through interviews.

At that time, the state had only Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College (MGMMCH) Jamshedpur and Patliputra Medical College Hospital (PMCH) Dhanbad. RIMS Ranchi is an autonomous body.

Dr AN Mishra and Dr SS Prasad in MGMMCH while Dr Arun Kumar Choudhary and Dr Arun Kumar were appointed first regular principal and superintendent of PMCH Dhanbad.

Regular principals sacked in 2013

However, in 2013 all regular principals and superintendents were sacked by the then-health minister late Rajendra Prasad Singh. Since then, all 5 medical colleges have been under in-charge principals and superintendents.

Dr Arun Kumar later became principal of PMCH, Dumka medical college cum director in-chief health. Dr Arun Choudhary also became superintendent of PMCH and now is the principal of Dumka Medical College.

15 senior professors in race for 10 posts

As per the notification, 5 principals and 5 superintendents will be appointed. It is an open interview and as per National Medical Commission (NMC) guidelines senior professors of the institution will be the principal and superintendent but the government does not follow norms.

Altogether 15 senior professors are billed to be serious candidates for both posts.

As per the government seniority list, Prof (Dr) Arun Kumar Choudhary (present Dumka College principal) is a 2004 batch professor and senior most teacher in medical colleges of the state.

Dr Diwakar Hansda of MGMMCH is the 2015 batch professor and second senior most teacher in the state.

2018 batch professors

As per the seniority list, 2018 batch professors are Dr KK Lal (MGM), Dr RK Mandhan (MGM), Dr Jyotiranjan Prasad (principal-cum-superintendent SNMMCH), Dr DP Bhushan ( SNMMCH), Dr UK Ojha ( SNMMCH), Dr DK  Sinha (MGM), Dr  Makradhwaj Prasad (SNMMCH),  Dr SK Singh (principal  SBMCH Hazaribagh ) Dr Sanjay Kumar Chourasia (SNMMCH), Dr Sanjay Kumar (MGM) Dr ML Jamal  (MGM), Dr  Ajay Raj (MGM), Dr Ravindra Kumar ( principal cum superintendent (MGM) and Dr AN Jha (MGM).

Three months back, the government promoted 27 associate professors from different medical colleges on posts of professors. They are also considered serious contenders.
