New Delhi, Feb 7: Several Tamil Nadu politicians, including 15 former MLAs and an ex-MP, joined the BJP on Wednesday in Delhi, ahead of this year’s Lok Sabha elections.

The majority of these leaders are from the AIADMK, a Tamil Nadu BJP ally in the past.

In the presence of Tamil Nadu BJP chief K Annamalai and Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar, former AIADMK figures such as K Vadivel, MV Rathnam, R Chinnaswamy, and PS Kandasamy, officially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

After extending a warm welcome to the leaders, Annamalai stated that they aim to bolster Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s position as he seeks a third consecutive term in office and that they bring a wealth of experience to the BJP.

PM Modi’s popularity spurs BJP membership surge: Chandrasekhar

Union Minister Chandrasekhar remarked that the significant scale of joining indicates Prime Minister Modi’s popularity in a state like Tamil Nadu, where the BJP historically hasn’t wielded substantial influence.

Observing Modi’s projection of the BJP winning 370 seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections and the NDA surpassing 400, Chandrasekhar asserted that a significant portion of these new seats would be contributed by Tamil Nadu.
