Daltonganj, May 14: In an unusual development, 2023 batch MBBS students of Medinirai Medical College and Hospital (MMCH), Daltonganj, have formally requested Nilamber Pitamber University (NPU) to postpone their examinations scheduled from May 19 to the fourth week of June.

The demand, submitted through a one-page petition written in Hindi and signed by 93 students, has triggered strong reactions from both the university administration and the medical college authorities.
According to sources, the students not only sought postponement of the examination but also proposed a paper-wise schedule for the revised exam dates.

Vice Chancellor Calls Students’ Move ‘Rashness’
Nilamber Pitamber University Vice Chancellor Dr Dinesh Kumar Singh criticised the demand, saying students cannot dictate examination schedules based on personal convenience.
Speaking to this correspondent, Singh said:
“This is the rashness of the students as to how they can ask the university to take their exams on and from such dates which suit them. These students have even drawn a paper-based daily schedule for their proposed exam.”

The Vice Chancellor said the university is committed to clearing academic backlogs and normalising delayed sessions.
“This May 19 exam for the 2023 batch is already late. Now these students further ask for a one-month deferment. The students are trying to dictate. It’s their self-harming attitude,” he added.
MMCH Principal Distances Himself From Demand
MMCH Principal Dr Jakka Srinivas Rao also distanced himself from the students’ request, stating that the examinations were already running behind schedule and any further delay would negatively impact the academic calendar.
Rao said he has informed the university to take an appropriate decision independently.
“This exam is already months late and students asking for a month more extension of it belies all logic and reasoning, which I can’t accept,” Rao said.
He further stated that supporting such demands could have serious long-term ramifications for academic discipline and future sessions.
University Likely to Take Tough Stand
Sources said the same batch of students had earlier raised repeated concerns over delayed sessions, examinations and results. However, with the university now prepared to conduct examinations from May 19, the demand for another month’s extension has surprised authorities.
University sources indicated that NPU may take a “salutary decision” on the issue to prevent similar demands in future and maintain academic discipline among medical students.
