BIT Sindri celebrates National Science Day, pays homage to Sir CV Raman

Dhanbad, Feb 28: The training and placement cell of BIT Sindri on Wednesday celebrated ‘National Science Day’ and pledged to promote the legacy of Sir C.V. Raman, channelling his passion and dedication to propel India’s scientific journey towards ever greater heights.
The speakers on the occasion while paying heartfelt homage to Sir CV Raman said that this holds special significance, as it commemorates the groundbreaking discovery of the Raman Effect by Sir C.V. Raman in 1928, leading to India’s recognition as a global scientific powerhouse.
On the occasion, BIT Sindri Career Development Centre (CDC) Chairman Prof Ghanshyam said that the theme of this year’s National Science Day is “İndigenous Technology for Viksit Bharat”.
It highlights the importance of self-reliance and innovation. It instils a sense of pride in our scientific achievements and underlines the need to amplify indigenous research, development, and technological advancements.

“As professionals and educators let us come together to make science more fun, interesting, and engaging our young minds, paving the way for a brighter tomorrow,” said Prof Ghanshyam.
The Raman Effect: A Milestone for Indian Science
Prof Ghanshyam said the ‘Raman Effect’, discovered by Sir C.V. Raman, brought global recognition to Indian science. This groundbreaking phenomenon demonstrated the inelastic scattering of photons by matter and introduced new perspectives on the study of solids, liquids, and gases.
The Raman effect’s practical applications include its use as a sophisticated tool for the analysis of chemical compositions, making it a crucial technique in fields such as chemistry, pharmaceuticals, and environmental science.
“As we celebrate National Science Day, let us reiterate our commitment to fostering scientific development, making science more accessible and encouraging innovative thinking. Together, we can inspire a new generation of scientists, researchers, and innovators who will shape the future of our nation,“ he said.
