Jharkhand News: Daltonganj railway station superintendent saves youth from near fatality

Daltonganj, March 3: Prompt action by Daltonganj railway station Superintendent Umesh Kumar and his team saved a 25-year-old man, Ajit Singh, from a near fatality by the side of the railway tracks last night.

Daltonganj railway station falls under the Dhanbad division of the East Central Railway.

Umesh Kumar said, “Ajit Singh got a jolt from one of the Kolkata-Ahmadabad express train coaches near pole 266/25 between Mangra and Kechki railway stations last night.”

Ajit Singh must have been trying to cross the railway lines when this episode occurred.

The Kolkata-Ahmadabad express train driver alerted the Daltonganj railway station about a man jolted by the coach.

Shaktipunj Express

Umesh Kumar said, “Immediately we got on to the job. There was a coming Shaktipunj express train. We asked the driver of this Shaktipunj express train to pick up this injured man. The train halted, and the injured man was loaded into the guard van and brought down to the Daltonganj railway station.”

“Here, an ambulance was kept ready, and by 1.30 am, this injured man was brought down to the Daltonganj railway station by the Shaktipunj express train and was rushed to the MMCH Daltonganj,” added Umesh Kumar.

This correspondent spoke to Ajit Singh. He said he is recovering.

MMCH Daltonganj

Medical Superintendent of the MMCH Daltonganj, Dr Dilip Kr Singh, said, “X-ray, CT scans and other tests have been done. There is no fracture. The patient is stable and responding to treatment.”

Ajit Singh has injuries in the head and below the nose. His eyes are safe.

Ajit Singh’s brother, Arvind Singh, said he had no idea how Ajit was crossing the railway line mid-night.

The railway lines are barely 100 feet from their house at Amdeeha under the Barwadeeh police station limits.

Arvind Singh praised the doctor and nurses for the treatment and care for Ajit Singh.

Civil Surgeon Dr Anil Kumar said, “I am informed about patients making steady progress. He is being well taken care of. It is his second innings of life.”
