Ranchi, March 9: President Droupadi Murmu has appointed BJP national secretary and former Ranchi Mayor Asha Lakra as a member of the National Scheduled Tribes Commission (NSTC).
The Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India, issued a notification in this regard on Saturday.
Asha, along with IPS-turned-politician Arun Oraon, was a strong contender for the Rajya Sabha seat, which, however, went to party general secretary Pradeep Verma. Both were also in the race for the Lok Sabha ticket from Lohardaga. However, the party nominated BJP ST Morcha national front president Sameer Oraon to contest from Lohardaga, a seat where it faces a tough contest from the Congress-JMM alliance.
Who is Asha Lakra?
Asha has also been included in the 15-member Election Management Committee formed for the Lok Sabha elections in West Bengal. She was appointed co-observer for selecting the legislature party’s leader after the BJP’s victory in the recent Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections.
