Dhanbad, March 15: Paramedical students of Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) Dhanbad met Deputy Commissioner (DC) Madhvi Mishra and urged her to allot the hostel.

Paramedical students of the 2022-23 batch, in a memorandum to the deputy commissioner, have said that the hostel for Paramedical students at SNMMCH Dhanbad has been completed since 2020 even though rooms have yet to be allotted to students.

Jharkhand Paramedical Students Association

Secretary of Jharkhand Paramedical Students Association Raju Mahto said that due to a residential crisis, a female student of Pakur left the course. At the same time, a boy from Jamtara had to ferry by cycle daily to attend classes in Dhanbad.

The authorities at SNMMCH said that since the hostel building has not been completed as per the work order, it has not yet been taken. The students will be allotted only after the infrastructure is completed.

“The Major crisis is electric connection. We can’t ask students to live in the dark. The transformer has been lying idle on the hostel premises for years. Moreover, the infrastructure has not been equipped as per the work order. In this situation, how would we take over an incomplete building?” said Dr Ganesh Kumar, coordinator of the Paramedical course at the SNMMCH centre in Dhanbad.

Medical college official sources said last year, the then additional chief secretary (ACS) of health, Arun Kumar Singh, during his SNMMCH Dhanbad visit, also inspected the para-medical students’ hostel and assured that it would be completed soon. However, after returning to Ranchi, he did not take any action before retiring from service this year.
