Dhanbad, March 15: A showdown-like situation has appeared among office bearers of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) Jamshedpur chapter over a show-cause notice.

The executive committee had on March 8 slapped a show cause notice to its vice-president, Dr Mritunjay Kumar Singh, for alleged ‘anti-association’ work. Dr Singh had to reply in one week, which ended today.

But Dr Mritunjay Kumar Singh said that to date (March 15), he has not received any letter from the IMA. “Had IMA sent show cause notice through speed post or registry to my home address, of course, I would have got that,” he said,

IMA Jamshedpur Secretary

Secretary of IMA Jamshedpur chapter, Dr Saurabh Choudhary, said that on March 8, the executive committee unanimously decided to show cause against Vice-President Dr Singh for his anti-association activities and for creating trouble for doctors of Jamshedpur. “A total of 20 executive members out of 28 were present at the meeting, and after discussion, a show cause notice was issued. Copy of notice was also sent to IMA state body,” said Dr Choudhary.

An executive member alleged that Dr Mritunjay Singh misled MLA Saryu Roy to issue a privilege notice against the IMA secretary and president, Dr GC Majhi. Moreover, Dr Singh conspired against senior doctors Dr AK Lal and Dr Renuka Choudhary. Having seen his dubious role, IMA members pressured the executive committee to take action against Dr Singh.

However, Dr Singh refuted the allegation and said he would give a proper reply if notice were served.

Alleges double standard of IMA state body

Dr Mritunjay Kumar Singh, secretary of the IMA Jamshedpur chapter for several years, charged that the state IMA has a double-standard policy in his case. “I am pained that IMA state president Dr AK Singh has questioned how I became vice-president of IMA Jamshedpur while posting at Palamu. But at the same time, he has not objected to Dr Sushil Kumar, IMA secretary in Dhanbad but posted at Pakur,” said Dr Mritunjqay Singh.

Dr Singh further pointed out that Dr Shekhar Choudhary Kajal is posted at Ichagarh ( Seraikela district) but holds the IMA Ranchi president post. Dr Kundan is an IMA Jamshedpur executive member who is posted at Ranchi. Dr AK Lal was posted in Vaishali of Bihar but held the post in Jamshedpur. “All these facts expose double standard of the IMA state chapter,” he said
