Jamshedpur, March 23: XLRI Jamshedpur, one of India’s oldest and premier B-Schools, celebrated its 68th annual convocation on its campus this evening.

XLRI conferred the Sir Jehangir Ghandy Medal for Industrial and Social Peace Award to N Chandrasekaran, Chairman, Tata Sons.

“His unyielding commitment to society and our nation has embodied high standards of ethical leadership through strategic decisions that have grown the Tata brand and reinforced the lasting Tata legacy of prioritising national interests,” the citation said.

The 68th annual convocation event started with the Academic Procession, followed by the Director, Fr S George S.J.’s report, and address by Chairman T V Narendran, CEO and MD of Tata Steel.

He also presented the Sir Jehangir Ghandy Medal for Industrial and Social Peace Award to N Chandrasekaran, the chief guest and convocation speaker.

Accepting the medal from the chairman, N Chandrasekaran said, “I express my sincere heartfelt gratitude to XLRI for honouring me with the Sir Jehangir Ghandy Medal for Social and Industrial Peace. The graduates of XLRI excel in business; today, many role models in the industry are from the proud alumni network of XLRI.

“We have seen history in the last four years.  The nation-building impulse is as relevant now as it was earlier. There are major energy transitions, digital transitions in the form of AI and machine Learning, and Supply Chain Transitions that we are facing today. But India is uniquely placed because we can invest in each of these transitions today because of the geopolitical advantages that our country has. By 2030, Tata Group will move to 70% Green Energy,” he added.

Chandrasekaran also highlighted Tata Group’s priorities. These include Simplification, Synergy, Sustainability, Supply Chain Transformation, and digital Transformations. These are achieved via integrity, sound strategy, great execution, good governance, and consistent practice. He asked the students to follow three important traits for a successful career: a positive attitude, a winning attitude, and the ability to work hard.

He also congratulated the students, saying, “Reflect on the journey that you will travel from today. The next generation of leaders is you. India waits for your contribution in the form of the story you will create.

The event was then followed by the distribution of Diploma degrees to the 551 graduating students, marking the beginning of their promising professional journeys.
