Jamshedpur, April 4: In a breakthrough, police and paramilitary forces on Tuesday evening detected three IEDs from the hilly tracks under the Naxal-infested Tonto Thana area in West Singhbhum district about 120 km away from here, giving a jolt to the rebels.

The IEDs weighing two kgs, six kgs and 10 kgs were planted between the hilly tracks of Sarjomburu and Maradiri jungles aimed at the paramilitary forces which are presently engaged in the anti-insurgency operations going on there.

The paramilitary forces soon brought in a bomb disposal squad and got all three explosive devices detonated on the spot.

Speaking about the breakthrough, the superintendent of police, West Singhbhum, Ashutosh Shekhar said this is a big achievement on the part of the police and paramilitary forces as the 10-kgs IEDs if remained undetected then it would have caused devastation.

Special drive to flush out Naxals

It may be mentioned here that the police and paramilitary forces have launched a special drive to flush out the so-called Naxal leaders like Misir Besra, Analda, Mochu, Ajay Mahto, Kandey, Chaman, Sagen Angaria and Aswin who have sneaked into the Tonto and Goelkera Thana areas of the West Singhbhum since January last year.

To keep themselves shielded from the wrath of the paramilitary forces, these Naxals have planted an unspecified number of IEDs at strategic points across the forest area.

During this period, as many as three paramilitary jawans and over two dozen innocent villagers have lost their lives due to the IED blasts triggered by the Naxals there.
