NIA arrests PLFI militant in Jharkhand following raids

New Delhi, April 11: Following raids in Jharkhand and Assam, the National Investigation Agency arrested an armed cadre of the Naxal group People’s Liberation Front of India, an official statement released on Thursday stated.

Following the crackdown, one Binod Munda, also known as Sukkhwa, was apprehended from the Khunti district in Jharkhand. He is an armed PLFI splinter group member and is wanted in four Jharkhand PFLI cases.

Incriminating items, documents, phones, SIM cards recovered

The investigating agency stated that he has been detained in connection with a case involving efforts to revive the PLFI.

With assistance from local police, the NIA teams carried out the raids and searches at two locations each in Jharkhand and Assam on Wednesday.

The NIA added that during the searches, its raiding teams found a number of other incriminating items, including documents pertaining to the PLFI, two walkie-talkies, five cell phones, SIM cards, and Rs 11,000 in cash.

Case filed last October after arrest of PLFI chief Dinesh Gope

Earlier in the case, two accused were apprehended, along with Rs 3 lakh in cash, as well as firearms and ammunition.

A case was filed on October 11 of the previous year under pertinent sections of the IPC and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act against Martin Kerkatta and additional PLFI members for attempting to rejuvenate the group subsequent to the arrest of its chief, Dinesh Gope, by the NIA.

The NIA stated that PLFI members and cadres were involved in extorting money from different coal traders, transporters, railway contractors, and businessmen across the states of Jharkhand, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha as part of the revival efforts.
