Jamshedpur, May 4:  Stock of paint worth lakhs of rupees was gutted as a major fire broke out in a paint godown near Dimna Lake under Bodam thana area about 12 km away from here on Saturday morning.

The fire engulfed an unspecified number of drums containing the paint, sending a thick cloud of black smoke into the sky.

The devastating fire had even crossed over to the paint godown’s boundary wall to the adjoining jungle. But alacrity shown by the local villagers in preventing the fire from spreading further and subsequent service by a fire brigade ultimately led the razing fire to get under control.

Owned by Vipin Dubey, a resident of Jamshedpur, the paint godown is located at Asanboni in Bodam.

It could not be established as to how did the the paint godown caught fire. Having come to know about the incident, the paint godown owner and a police party led by Bodam thana OC, Upendra Narayan Singh had reached the spot.

It took about two hours for the fire brigade to douse the flame which at a point of time seemed very difficult as the aflame paint was inflammable.

Deputy superintendent of police, Bachandeo Kujur said the cause of the fire and the volume of loss due to the fire incident are being ascertained by the police with the help of power discom JBVNL and the godown owner.
