New Delhi, May 8: Sanju Samson, the captain of the Rajasthan Royals (RR), has been fined 30 per cent of his match fees for breaching the Indian Premier League’s (IPL) code of conduct during his team’s Tuesday game against the Delhi Capitals at Arun Jaitley Stadium.
“Sanju Samson, captain, of Rajasthan Royals has been fined 30 per cent of his match fees for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during Match 56 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on May 07, 2024,” an IPL said in an official statement.
“Samson committed a Level 1 offence under Article 2.8 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct. He admitted to the offence and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding,” the IPL statement added.

In the 16th over of Rajasthan Royals’ chase of 222 runs, Samson, who was the top scorer with 86 runs off 46 balls, was caught by Shai Hope at long-on off Mukesh Kumar’s delivery. Hope caught the ball close to the boundary edge and momentarily stumbled before regaining balance.
Concerned about whether his foot touched the boundary cushions, the on-field umpires consulted TV umpire Michael Gough, who confirmed that Hope had taken the catch cleanly.
Before leaving the field, Samson had a long conversation with the on-field umpires KN Ananthapadmanabhan and Ulhas Gandhe.
Delhi Capitals won the match by 20 runs as the Rajasthan Royals were unable to fight back after Samson’s dismissal and kept losing wickets.
