THE JHARKHAND STORY DESK

New Delhi, May 22: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has mandated BJP president JP Nadda and Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge to issue official directives to their star campaigners, asking them to rectify their language, exercise caution, and uphold decorum.

The Commission’s directive to the BJP and Congress is unprecedented, prompted by the declining quality of campaigning orchestrated by their star campaigners.

EC directs to avoid religious and communal themes in campaigning

Both the BJP and the Congress have faced severe criticism from the EC for their caste, community, language, and religious-based campaigns.

The election authority has instructed star campaigners from both parties to avoid incorporating religious and communal themes in their campaigning. Additionally, the ECI has asked the BJP to cease campaign speeches that could potentially divide society.

EC instructs Congress not to make misleading remarks about Constitution

The Election Commission (EC) has instructed the Congress to make sure that star campaigners refrain from making misleading remarks, including suggesting that the Indian Constitution might be sold or abolished.

Furthermore, in reference to the Agniveer scheme, the election commission has directed Congress campaigners or candidates to refrain from politicizing the defence forces and from making divisive statements regarding the socio-economic makeup of the defence forces.

EC dismisses BJP and Congress’ accusations against each other

The Election Commission has dismissed accusations made by both the BJP and Congress against each other and has turned down their respective defences.

The Commission has emphasized that the ruling party holds additional responsibility during election periods and has stated that there should not be unrestricted leeway for the opposition either.
