Daltonganj, June 2: Electricity installations here have having cool cover! It is because of the environmental temperature and rising overloading of power by the consumers in a bid to beat cruel and hottest day and night.

Stating this, the executive engineer, electricity, Daltonganj division, Shambhu Nath Choudhary said, “We used a water tanker to moisten our earth pit of the Redma power substation. Here the earthing had weakened considerably because of the loss of the moisture in the earth all due to heat.”

Again, water-soaked pieces of jute were spread over the electricity equipment to keep it cool and functioning properly Choudhary added.

Intense heat has led to many a problem. First is the episode of line fault. Choudhury said issues with line fault are too many.

Similarly, cables are burning. Again for heat. Burnt cables are being replaced by the electricity department on a war footing, added the executive engineer.

Transformer repair workshop

Rising heat has affected transformers right from 100 KV to 200 KV also. Choudhury pointed out that the transformer repair workshop is working tirelessly to replace the dead one with the functioning one as we don’t have new transformers in such a number for replacement.

The executive engineer had a word of praise for electricians and mechanics who climb iron electricity poles when the iron pole is as hot as hellfire and spend a minimum of 20 minutes or so to mend the power supply.

Choudhury making a sensitive appeal to the consumers said, “It’s a hard time for everyone. The electricity department is making an all-out effort to ensure a smooth power supply. It’s your people’s responsibility too to see the electricity is not wasted. A loss or theft of the electricity is a loss for the state.”

He has further urged the consumers to pay their electricity bills on time and not to keep them hanging for months for no reason at all. End
