Kejriwal’s lawyer informs SC about CBI arrest, to file new appeal

Senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi, appearing for Kejriwal, told the bench that since the Delhi High Court has passed a detailed order on June 25, he would like to file a substantive appeal.

Singhvi told the bench that new developments are taking place every day and now Kejriwal has been arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

He stated that they would seek to place all relevant information on record and challenge the June 25 order of the Delhi High Court. The Delhi Court had stayed the bail order of the lower court in its June 25 order.

The bench considered the arguments and granted Singhvi permission to file the appeal.

CBI granted permission to arrest Kejriwal

Earlier today, a Delhi court granted permission to the CBI to formally arrest Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in connection with the alleged excise scam/ liquor scam.

Special Judge Amitabh Rawat passed the order, and the CBI subsequently arrested Kejriwal.

The central probe agency filed the application after the AAP leader was brought before the court from Tihar Central Jail.

The court also instructed the CBI to present the material they have to justify his arrest.

CBI’s Special Public Prosecutor DP Singh presented extensive arguments and contested the submissions made by Kejriwal’s lawyer.
