Daltonganj, July 7: Wardens, teachers and girls of the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Awasiya Vidyalayas here have been mandated to make biometric attendance every morning and every evening.

DC Shashi Ranjan told this correspondent that an order to this effect has been given to the district education officer Durganand Jha to get it passed to the entire fleet of the KGBAVs here.

Shortfall in attendance

The DC further said, “We are concerned about the shortfall in attendance of the girls in the KGBAVs here. First, there is less admission. Again, among the enrolled, there is less attendance. This is just not acceptable. It has to be set right.”

The DC further agreed to say when there is a less attendance of girls for days and days, it has to be seen if there is any food scam happening.

Rs 50 for meal everyday

It comes 50 rupees per girl, per day food. If there is a persistent shortfall in attendance of the girls,it reflects on the food and its possible scam.

On a single day alone July 3, scores of  girls were found absent from their respective KGBAVs here  which meant full day meals for them should not have been utilised but if the KGBAVs manipulate their absence as presence then the food scam is no any far.

Each KGBAV has a total of 525 girls beginning class 6 to 12. The intake capacity for admission each class beginning 6 to 12 is 75 girls only.

Food scam

In order to improve the shortfall in attendance and also to keep nails down on a possible food scam here in the KGBAVs, biometric attendance for wardens, teachers and girls morning evening have been made compulsory.

District education officer Durganand Jha said the DC’s order has been communicated to the wardens to ensure biometric attendance.

Jha also said all the 12 wardens have been asked to submit report of attendance on a daily basis through e vidya vahini app.

The DEO said there are a few wardens who are yet to follow it regularly. Jha said they have been asked to improve before any action is initiated against them.

As to curb truancy of girls from KGBAVs for days and weeks the Palamu administration has threatened to cancel the ‘registration for the girls so keeping themselves out of the KGBAVs’.

DC Shashi Ranjan said girls must not remain away from the KGBAVs. If they then their registration will be cancelled, he added.

DEO Durganand Jha said, “Under orders of the DC we are making all out efforts to improve the admission tally which is 75 admissions from class 6 to 12 and again to reduce the percentage of absence of the girls.”

Jha added, “We need co operation of the parents most as they are the ones who can keep their girls to stay put in the KGBAVs here.”

Festival time sees girls going out like this coming Muharram when Muslim girls will move out but there is no justification for larger exit of the girls of KGBAVs in non festival time.
