Ranchi, July 23: Bokaro’s Ankit Kumar Singh won the Aditya Birla Memorial 23rd Jharkhand State FIDE Rating Chess Championship which concluded today at Sarla Birla University campus.

In nine rounds unbeaten Ankit bagged the highest 8.5 points in the championship and got the glittering champion trophy as well as a cash prize of Rs 17,500.

Devanjan Singh of Jamshedpur is runner-up

Devanjan Singh of Jamshedpur (East Singhbhum) became runner-up with eight points in nine rounds a cash prize of Rs 12,500 and a trophy. Kamal Kishore Deonath of West Singhbhum and Bhola Nath Das of East Singhbhum earned 7.5 points each and got 3rd and 4th position respectively.

Technical officials said that the four top players of this championship will represent Jharkhand in the national chess championship.

Alka Das of East Singhbhum and Aseem Bihari Sharan of Ranchi also got 7.5 points each in the championship but unfortunately, they failed to get a berth in the state team based on progressive points.

Alka Das got progressive points equal to Bholanath Das (49.5 each) but she lagged behind half a point in another account.  Aseem Bihari Sharan had only 48 progressive points.

Adhiraj Mitra (ES), Manish Sharma (WS), SP Dutt ( Palamu), and Ansh Kumar (Ranchi) got 7 points each and managed to come among the top 10 players of the state.

Besides them, Abhinav Kumar, (ES), Abhiraj Dey (Ranchi), Aabhash (Hazaribagh), OC Sharma (Ranchi), and Aditya Kumar (Hazaribagh) also earned 7 points each but had to content on 11 to 15 spots in the championship.

Kumar Utkarsh (ES), Raja Bose (Dhanbad), Aditi Raj (Ranchi), Sikandar Anis ( Bokaro) and Vedant Rajesh (Dhanbad)  came among the top 20 players with 6.5 points.

Ranchi SSP Chandan Sinha was the chief guest

Ranchi senior superintendent of police (SSP) Chandan Kumar Sinha was the chief guest in the closing ceremony and gave away trophies to players. JOA treasurer, Shuvendu Dubey, AJCA secretary Manish Kumar, joint secretary Dipak Kumar, treasurer Satish Kumar, District secretary Navjot Rubal Saraikela district president Manoj Kumar and secretary Ajay Kumar were also present.

FIDE Arbiter Prabhat Ranjan Kumar was chief arbiter assisted by Dipak Kumar Vikram Kumar, Jaya Ratna, and T Murugan.
