Dhanbad, Nov 16: In a significant move, Dhanbad Rail Division of the East Central Railway (ECR) zone has decided to deploy ‘Meri Saheli’ (women constable) at major railway stations for the safety and help of female passengers during the Chhath festival.

A senior official of Dhanbad Rail Division today said that on the directive of DRM Kamal Kumar Sinha, RPF personnel along with additional women constables are being deployed at important railway stations where Chhath devotees arrive and depart in large numbers.

“During the Chhath festival, massive passengers arrive and depart from different railway stations. Extra precaution measures have been taken to control the movement of passengers and keep a close watch on anti-social elements’ activities. In this regard additional security force along with dog squad are deployed”, said the official.

Divisional railway has also equipped CCTV cameras at important stations to monitor the movement  24 hours. A special focus has been put on checking incidents of intoxication of passengers in trains.

During the Chhath festival special holding area has been set up at important stations for passengers announcement system which has been streamlined so that passengers can be informed about trains, special trains and the availability of coaches in trains.

If needed additional ticket and inquiry counters would also be opened to cater for the requirements of passengers. The division has also decided to deploy RPF, GRP and home guard at railway Phatak to get Chhath devotees crossed easily.
