New Delhi, July 31: An official order states that the government has appointed former health secretary Preeti Sudan as the new chairperson of the Union Public Service Commission, after Manoj Soni resigned from the position earlier this month.
Currently serving as a member of the UPSC, Sudan will assume her new role on Thursday, August 1.

“The Hon’ble President has also approved the appointment of Smt. Preeti Sudan, Member, UPSC, under clause (1) of Article 316 of the Constitution for performing the duties of Chairman, UPSC with effect from 1 August, 2024, till further orders or until 29.04.2025, whichever is earlier,” the appointment order said.
Having served as Union health secretary for three years until July 2020, Sudan is an IAS officer from the 1983 batch of the Andhra Pradesh cadre.
The order also stated that the President has accepted Soni’s resignation, effective July 31, which he had submitted on July 4.
