Dhanbad, Aug 3: Several residential areas in Dhanbad face flood-like situations following incessant heavy rain that has been lashing the region for the last 45 hours since Thursday at 3 pm.
As per the district statistics department report, in the last 24 hours (till 3 pm on Friday) Dhanbad had recorded 97.7 mm of rainfall.
Following heavy lashing, posh Grewal Colony near Bekarbandh, Nawadih Nandan Residency in Bhuli, Mangal Vihar Colony in Dhaiyya, Shivliwari Colony in Maithon have been inundated with water, disconnecting the residents from the main road completely.
Jharkhand’s first 8-lane road water-logged
Besides that, the main road between the city and the Interstate National Highway near Raniband in the Dhaiyya area looks like a pond. Water has even been logged on Jharkhand’s first 8-lane road built at the cost of Rs 461 Crore. Even the link road of IIT Indian School of Mines (ISM) is around 4 feet.

Rainwater entered roadside shops in Dhaiyya while overflowing Jhilia river water entered houses in Shivliwari colony in Kumardhuwi, Naya Nagar and Adarsh Nagar in Maithon.
In the wake of an alert sounded by the state government all schools in Dhanbad on Saturday remained closed.
Having seen a grim situation, Dhanbad Municipal Corporation and the district administration have launched a special drive to bail out the people from unpleasant conditions. Municipal Commissioner Raviraj Sharma said that Quick Response Teams (QRT) have been pressed in at different locations to clear the water logging.
Gyarahkund block development officer Madhu Kumari and former Nirsa MLA Arup Chatterjee braving heavy downpours visited the Shivliwari residential area and assured affected residents of food and water supply from the administration.
District administration officials said that till 11 am on Saturday, there was no report of any life and property loss in heavy incessant rain in the region.
