Jharkhand News: Dhanbad FSO slaps Rs 25,000 fine on posh restaurant

Dhanbad, Aug 10: The district food safety wing of the health department on Saturday inspected New Mumbai Sweets, Baramudi and fined Rs 25,000 on the spot for keeping substandard food items.

Food safety officer (FSO) Rajkumar told media persons that a raid was conducted on the complaint of a consumer and the expiry date of bread, slices, Pizza, cookies and other eatable items was checked.

Samples sent to State Food Lab Ranchi

The FSO collected samples of all suspected items from the restaurant and sent them for test at State Food Lab Ranchi. Based on the recovery of substandard items, the district team imposed Rs 25,000 on the restaurant on the spot.

Insect found in mixed vegetable item

The Food Safety department swung into action after a consumer named Pritam Kumar complained that an insect was found in a mixed vegetable item when he had gone for dinner in the New Mumbai Sweets restaurant based on the side of first 8 lanes road near Asarfi Hospital on August 6.

The complainant alleged that some restaurants in Dhanbad do not follow hygienic guidelines of the Food Safety Standard Act (FSSA) and serve injurious food items to consumers.

District Food Safety Officer Rajkumar said that an inspection was conducted in the restaurant on the directive of the civil surgeon.  “Samples of suspected food items from the restaurant have been sent to the laboratory in Ranchi. Further action would be taken based on the lab report, he added.
