Hyderabad, Nov 18: Vijayashanti, the Telugu actor-turned-politician, rejoined the Congress party on Saturday, marking her return following the announcement of her resignation from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Following her entry into the party, Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal promptly assigned her the role of Chief Coordinator for the Campaign and Planning Committee in preparation for the Telangana Assembly polls on November 30.
The decision will be enforced immediately.
Vijayashanti, a former BJP MP, was officially inducted into the Congress party in the presence of Congress leader Mallaikarjun Kharge at a ceremony held in Hyderabad.

Her comeback to the Congress coincides with the party’s vigorous campaigning for the upcoming 2023 Telangana election scheduled for November 30.
Vijayshanti, a prominent figure in South Indian cinema, entered politics with the BJP in 1997. Subsequently, she left the party and joined the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) during their advocacy for a separate Telangana. She successfully contested and was elected to the Lok Sabha in 2009.. Later, in 2014, she became a member of the Congress party, a move that coincided with the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, leading to the formation of Telangana.
Vijayashanti has appeared in numerous films across Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, and Malayalam languages. She earned the National Film Award for Best Actress for her portrayal of a female police officer in the movie ‘Kartavyam’.
The Telangana Assembly elections are scheduled for November 30, with the vote counting set to take place alongside four other states on December 3.
