New Delhi, August 24: Delhi’s Tis Hazari Court on Saturday extended Bibhav Kumar’s judicial custody until September 13 in connection with the Swati Maliwal assault case, while also seeking a response from the Investigating Officer regarding his plea for pagination of the charge sheet and related documents.

Judicial Magistrate (First Class) Gaurav Goyal asked the Investigating Officer (IO) to provide a response, with Bibhav Kumar appearing through video conferencing (VC) from Tihar Jail.

Case currently at document scrutiny stage

Delhi Police have submitted a 500-page charge sheet against Bibhav Kumar, after examining 100 individuals, with 50 designated as witnesses.

The court took cognizance of the chargesheet on July 30, after it was submitted by the Delhi Police on July 16.

His bail plea was previously rejected by the trial court, and a subsequent bail application was also denied by the High Court on July 12.

Kumar was arrested on May 18

Kumar is accused of physically assaulting AAP Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal on May 13 at the official residence of Delhi’s Chief Minister.

An FIR was filed against Kumar on May 16 under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including those pertaining to criminal intimidation, assault on a woman with the intent to disrobe, and attempted culpable homicide.

He was arrested on May 18 and has been in judicial custody ever since.
