Jharkhand News:  Silk industry generates high opportunities for job, says APCCF

Ranchi, Aug 25: “If different departments make collaborative efforts and work with a common strategy, the silk industry will generate massive job opportunities,” said Sanjiv Kumar,  Additional Principal Chief of Conservator (APCCF) cum Member Secretary of the Biodiversity Board, Jharkhand.

APCCF Kumar, who addressed a seminar as chief guest on ‘Development of Silk Industry, Research, Training and Extension’ organised by Central Tsar Research and Training Institute, Ministry of Textile, the government of India, at Central Tasar Research and Training Institute Nagri, Ranchi, said that the silk industry in India has a glorious history. Jharkhand has always been a major silk producer state.

In the seminar, P Shiv Kumar (IFS), Member Secretary of the Central Silk Board, Bangaluru, Triveni Sahu, vice-chancellor of Jharkhand Open University, Ranchi, Dr NB Choudhary, director of the Central Tasar and Research Institute, Ministry of Textile, Government of India, and Dr Amit Pandey, director of the Institute of Forest Productivity, Ranchi, also addressed the audience.

“Our main mission is improvement and promotion of silk production by adopting new techniques and methods,” said  Sanjiv Kumar. He further added that the silk industry is the oldest in Jharkhand of making silk from leaves and nature has given us the unique art of making silkworms.

“Lakhs of people are attached to the silk industry from Tasar silk industry, especially poor, tribal families living in the jungle and get livelihood resources. Same time they also protect water, jungle and land,” said the APCCF.

The organiser said that the objective of this seminar was to ensure continuous growth and development of the silk industry by making the official language  Hindi a medium of science to understand the challenges.

Kumar pointed out that the silk industry generates self-employment resources in the making, spinning knitting or cloth-making industry.

P Shiv Kumar, while addressing said that the seminar provides an important platform for identifying new technologies and solving the challenges related to them and discussing all aspects of Tasar silk promotion.

Director NB Choudhary said the presentation and discussions given in this seminar will spur the growth and innovation of the Tasar silk industry.

Dr Jayprakash conducted the seminar while Dr Vishal Mittal proposed a vote of thanks.
