Jharkhand News: Dhanbad court sends man to jail for 20 years for raping minor

Dhanbad, Sept 7: The Dhanbad POCSO Court on Saturday handed over a 20-year jail term to Kanchan Bauri (23), a resident of Chirkunda in a one-year-old rape case involving a minor.

The Additional Public Prosecutor (APP) told media persons that the court of POCSO Special Judge Prabhakar Singh while hearing the case today also slapped a penalty of Rs 12,000 on accused Kanchan Bauri, besides a 20-year jail sentence.

The Court held Kanchan Bauri guilty in the case on Friday (September 6) and delivered its order on punishment today.

Victim girl’s father lodged FIR

The father of the girl had filed an FIR against Kanchan Bauri in Chirkunda police station of the district on November 12, 2023, alleging that he (the accused) took away his daughter to Jharia on November 7, raped her several times there for more than week.

The girl had gone out of the house in the name of college but did not return. When family members searched out her they got information that Kanchan led her to escape.

A total of nine witnesses were cross-examined in the case.
