Jharkhand News: Hit by trailer, two bikers killed in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur, Sept 7: Two youths were killed, one of them on the spot as the motorcycle they were travelling on was hit by a trailer on the Bistupur main road near N – road traffic signal post under Bistupur thana area late on Friday night.

Those killed were identified as Akaash Nandi (30) and Kartik Nandi (25), both residents of Baldev Bustee in Jugsalai.

Victims riding back home

The mishap took place as the victims, both cousin brothers, were riding back home having taken food from an eatery in Bistupur market at about 11.30 pm.

Akaash was riding the bike with Kartik sitting pillion from the eatery and as they took a turn towards Jugsalai, the speeding trailer which was coming from the Bistupur Thana end hit the bike.

As a result of the mishap, Akaash was run over by the heavy vehicle and Kartik was flung apart, sustaining a grievous head injury. The trailer driver had managed to escape the scene with the vehicle soon after the mishap.

A patrolling party reached the spot and rushed them to Tata Main Hospital. By the time the family members of the victims had also rushed to the hospital, but Kartik who was critically injured succumbed to his injuries after some time.

Bistupur-Jugsalai road blocked

In the morning, the bereaved family members and residents of the Baldev Bustee put up a blockade on the Bistupur-Jugsalai road near the Jugsalai police station in protest against the mishap.

The protestors which included women were demanding Rs 50 lakhs compensation for the family members of each of the victims and arresting of the trailer driver.

The blockade set up at about 10.00 am continued for over two hours disrupting vehicular communication through the important artery until the Jugsalai thana OC intervened and convinced the protestors to withdraw it.
