Dhanbad, September 12: The ambitious ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ plantation campaign at BIT Sindri, which ran from June 5 to September 12, concluded today.
This initiative, launched under the Life Style for Environment program and supported by the All-India Council of Technical Education (AICTE), saw active participation from both students and faculty members.
Dr Pankaj Rai, Director of BIT Sindri and patron of the program, emphasised the significance of the plantation effort during the closing function. He remarked, “Planting a tree is like nourishing life.”
He further highlighted that a teacher’s duty extends beyond imparting knowledge to instilling values related to environmental protection.

Coordinator’s perspective on environmental connection
Dr BD Yadav, Coordinator of the program and in-charge of the BIT Sindri Eco Club, underscored the connection between plantation and environmental stewardship.
“Plantation drives connect us with Mother Earth. We should be as dedicated to this cause as we are to our own families. Students are pioneers of change, and through this campaign, we can create awareness about combating climate change and protecting biodiversity,” stated Dr Yadav.
Campaign goals and campus responsibility
Program conveners Dr Komal Kumara, Assistant Professor in the Civil Engineering Department, and Dr Ashok Kumar Barnbal, Assistant Professor in the Chemical Engineering Department, both highlighted the importance of the plantation campaign.
Dr Kumara noted that the primary mission was not only to plant saplings but also to educate people about their importance. Dr Barnbal stated that the campaign would lay the foundation for a healthy and green future environment.
Dr RK Verma, General Warden, addressed the responsibility of maintaining a green campus for future generations. “The campus is our home, and we must ensure it remains green for the next generation,” he said.
Associate Professor Dr Manoj Kumar Mishra, along with Eco Club members Nilabh Madhu Aditya, Monu, Sangeeta, Prasant, and others, played a significant role in the success of the campaign.
