Tata Steel Jharia Division introduces sensor-based wheel washing systems

Dhanbad, Oct 8: Tata Steel’s Jharia Division has launched two state-of-the-art sensor-based wheel washing systems at its Jamadoba Coal Preparation Plant (JCCP) and Bhelatand Coal Preparation Plant (BCCP).

The inauguration was conducted by Ram Pravesh, the Dhanbad regional officer of the State Pollution Control Board (JSPCB), and Sanjay Rajoria, general manager of the Jharia Division, at both locations.

Reducing fugitive dust emissions

According to officials, these innovative systems are expected to significantly reduce fugitive dust emissions from vehicles departing the plants, effectively functioning as road cleaners and improving air quality in surrounding communities.

Present at the launch were notable figures, including Narendra Gupta (chief of Jamadoba Group), Vikas Kumar (chief of Sijua Group), Rajeev Kumar Ranjan (head of JCPP), Kousik Gayen (head of Planning), Prasenjit Samanta (head of BCCP), Sougat Mahato (assistant regional officer), along with other officials from Tata Steel and JSPCB.

An official said this initiative reflects Tata Steel’s commitment to environmental stewardship and the adoption of innovative technologies aimed at minimizing its environmental footprint. The sensor-based systems ensure efficient and effective wheel cleaning, significantly reducing dust pollution in the area.

Plantation programme 

The event also featured a plantation programme, further underscoring the company’s dedication to environmental conservation and increasing green cover.

SPCB regional officer Ram Pravesh commended Tata Steel’s proactive approach to environmental protection, stating, “This investment in advanced technology demonstrates Tata Steel’s ongoing commitment to sustainable operations and responsible environmental practices.”
