Jamshedpur, Oct 23: Cyclone Dana originating from the Bay of Bengal is expected to trigger heavy rain in isolated pockets of Jharkhand especially the southern region covering three districts of Kokhan and adjoining central parts.
The depression over east-central Bay of Bengal moved west-northwestwards, over the same region near latitude 15.5° N and longitude 91.0°E, about 700 km southeast of Paradip (Odisha), 750 km south-southeast of Sagar Island (West Bengal) and 730 km south-southeast of Khepupara (Bangladesh).
It is very likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a cyclonic storm – Dana- by today over east-central Bay of Bengal.
Thereafter, continuing to move northwestwards, it is very likely to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm over the northwest Bay of Bengal by the morning of October 24 and cross north Odisha and West Bengal coasts between Puri and Sagar Island during the night of October 24 and morning of October 25 as a severe cyclonic storm with a wind speed of 100-110 kmph gusting 120 kmph.

A bulletin issued by IMD’s Ranchi Meteorological Centre suggested thundershowers and lightning with surface wind (30-40 kmph) gusting to 50 kmph likely at isolated places over south-eastern parts of the state today.

Tomorrow, heavy rainfall is likely to occur at isolated places over south-eastern parts of the state.
Thundershowers and lightning with surface wind (40-50 kmph) gusting to 60 kmph likely at isolated places over South-eastern parts of the state are expected tomorrow.
On October 25, Friday very heavy rainfall is likely to occur at isolated places over the south-eastern parts of the state.
Heavy rainfall forecast was also issued for isolated places over south-western and adjoining central parts of the state on Friday.
On Saturday, October 26, heavy rainfall is likely to occur at isolated places over south-western parts of the state.
