Ranchi, Oct. 25: The BJP today lodged a complaint to the Election Commission against Jamtara MLA Irfan Ansari and submitted a memorandum demanding that he be expelled from the state till the assembly elections. “He should also be stopped from filing nomination and an order should be given to register a criminal case against him,” the party has demanded.

BJP leader Sudhir Srivastava, heading a delegation, said that Sita Soren is a Scheduled Tribe and widow and addressing a widow as “rejected maal” is not only an insult to the tribals but also an insult to all the widows of the state and the country. “What the Congress party thinks about tribal women is now known to the public,” he said.

He pointed out that there is a provision in Section 74 of the Indian Penal Code that whoever commits a serious crime like hurting the honour of a woman will be punished. “If Durga Soren ji was alive today, would Irfan Ansari have been able to say such words to his wife?” he asked.

Notably, the BJP has fielded Sita Soren, the eldest daughter-in-law of Shibu Soren, in Jamtara to contest against Irfan Ansari.

The BJP has also submitted a video of the words spoken by Irfan Ansari to the Election Commission.

Marandi demands expulsion from INDIA alliance

Meanwhile, BJP State President and former Chief Minister Babulal said that Irfan Ansari, who is considered to be a confidant of Chief Minister Hemant Soren, has crossed all limits by using indecent and insulting words about Sita Soren.

He said that ever since Sita Soren joined the BJP, personal attacks have been made on her by JMM-Congress leaders.

“The BJP is capable of responding to these attacks, but as the Chief Minister of the state, is it not his responsibility to expel from your alliance the person who used such abusive language against the wife of Durga Soren, a leading leader of the Jharkhand movement?” he asked the CM.

“The people of Jharkhand want to see what decision he takes on these low-level comments about a member of his own family. If the chief minister does not take any action despite this statement, it will become clear that personal attacks are being made on a female public representative at his behest,” he maintained.

Irfan’s statement reflects his anti-tribal woman mentality, says Pradeep Sinha

Posing a question, BJP spokesman Pradeep Sinha, asked, “Would the JMM have remained silent if Irfan Ansari had made such a statement on Kalpana Soren, the second daughter-in-law of the Soren family?”

Addressing the media, he said that Sita Soren was once a leader of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha. “She is the daughter-in-law of the Soren family. The way derogatory words were used for her, would Jharkhand Mukti Morcha remain silent if Irfan Ansari had made a similar statement about the other daughter-in-law Kalpana Soren?” he asked.

He said that the statement given by Irfan Ansari after his nomination was extremely objectionable. It also reflects his mentality, he added.

He said that his statement exposes his mentality about women and girls. “What he said is street language. This kind of language will be used only by those people whose values are like this,” he said.

He warned that if any opposition party uses such language in the elections, then do not expect decent behaviour from our workers.
