Daltonganj, Oct 29: Town police have seized 11.40 grams (yes grams) of brown sugar worth over Rs 2.28 lakh.

The officer in charge of the Town police station, Deobrat Poddar said, “Two people were caught on Sunday who were remanded to judicial custody on Monday late afternoon.”

The arrested and jailed two have been identified as Sandeep Kr Gaur, 42 and Durga Devi, 40.

Details of the accused’s backgrounds

Sandeep and Durga are not husband and wife. They are just known to each other. Durga came into this trade when she had a chance to meet with a woman who once had gone to jail on drug charges.

They are just drug peddlers, the police officer said. Sandeep hails from the Garhwa district while Durga is from Palamu.

A man from Bihar’s Sasaram district had given these two the drugs to be sold.

Sandeep and Durga were caught from a desolate place in Chiyanki, about 5 km off Daltonganj on Sunday.

Police officer Poddar said, “Police recovered 11.40 grams of brown sugar from the possession of Sandeep.”

Durga had no brown sugar in her possession.

She was just looking for the prospective buyers.

Querishi clan’s infamous reputation

Police officer Poddar said, “We are now trying to track Bihar’s Sasaram man Birender.”

A man and his wife belonging to the Querishi clan are a major suspect in running the drug racket here.

A few Querishis are rich here and their wealth is accrued to wrong and dubious means. Drug money is one such foul means.

Sandeep and Durga knew these Querishi men and women. They have been in the drug business for a long time and are pretty infamous.

The Querishis have gone underground.
