Ranchi, Nov. 8: The Supreme Court today issued a notice to the Central government in a Special Leave Petition filed by the Jharkhand government challenging the Jharkhand High Court order on Bangladeshi migrants.
The high court, in its September 20 2024 order appointed a fact-finding committee comprising of officers of the Central and State Governments for determining illegal immigrants from Bangladesh.
A division bench of Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia and Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah has till then given liberty to the Jharkhand government not to nominate its members to the Committee. The court has fixed December 3 for the next hearing.
The Jharkhand government, in its petition, stated that the fact-finding committee was appointed even though a report was submitted by the Deputy Commissioners of 6 districts (Godda, Jamtara, Pakur, Dumka, Sahibganj, and Deoghar) wherein no such illegal migration was found except in two cases in District Sahibganj, which were being dealt with by the State Authorities.
In this SLP, the Jharkhand government has argued that it has objected to the appointment of the committee and has found that the claims regarding illegal immigration resulting in a change of demography are non-existent.
Notably, Danish Danyaal, in his PIL filed in the high court, stated that the population of tribals in the districts of Sahibgang, Pakur, Godda, Dumka, Jamtara and Deoghar is decreasing because of the forceful conversions initiated by Bangladeshi Muslims.
