New Delhi, Nov 11: In a brief ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Monday, Justice Sanjiv Khanna took oath as the 51st Chief Justice of India (CJI).
President Droupadi Murmu administered the oath of office to Khanna who took the oath in English.
Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, and several other Union Cabinet ministers attended the event.
Having served as a judge in both the Supreme Court and Delhi High Court, Justice Khanna succeeds former CJI DY Chandrachud and will hold a six-month term as the 51st Chief Justice of India.
Justice Khanna has served on Supreme Court benches involved in key rulings, including the decision to uphold the abrogation of Article 370. He was also part of the bench that struck down the electoral bonds scheme previously passed by Parliament.
