THE JHARKHAND STORY DESK

New Delhi, Nov 18: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken charge of probing three significant cases related to the recent violence in Manipur, which caused loss of lives and major public disorder.

The agency assumed control of these cases from the Manipur Police following a recent order from the Ministry of Home Affairs. The violence associated with these cases had intensified over the months, causing fatalities and severe social unrest in Manipur.

The cases include a gunfight between the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Kuki militants in Manipur’s Jiribam area, resulting in the deaths of at least 10 Kuki militants.

A separate case related to the kidnapping of six individuals has been assigned to the NIA. Shortly after the abduction in Jiribam, their bodies were discovered, prompting the NIA to register a separate case for this incident.

In light of the rising instability, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) issued a directive to transfer these three cases from the Manipur Police to the NIA, which will now oversee the investigation into the violence and its wider implications on peace and security in the state.
