Dhanbad, Dec 12: Prof. Ramkumar Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Binod Bihari Mahto Koylanchal University (BBMKU), Dhanbad, highlighted the contributions of the great Tamil poet Subramania Bharati, describing him as a symbol of India’s unity in diversity. Prof. Singh stated that Bharati’s creative works played a significant role in igniting national consciousness during the freedom movement.
Unity in Diversity and Indian Language Festival
Addressing a seminar on the topic ‘Unity in Diversity and Indian Language Festival’ as the chief guest, Prof. Singh remarked, “India is a country of immense diversity, where people from various castes, communities, and linguistic backgrounds coexist. This diversity is the beauty and identity of our nation, embodying unity in diversity.”
He further said, “The great Tamil poet Subramania Bharati was an Indian writer, polyglot, journalist, teacher, social reformer, and freedom activist. His creative contributions sparked national consciousness during the freedom struggle.”
The Vice-Chancellor explained that this is the reason why the University Grants Commission (UGC) decided to commemorate Bharati’s birthday as the Indian Language Festival, aiming to raise awareness about the country’s diverse languages, cultures, and traditions.

The one-day seminar on ‘Unity in Diversity and Indian Language Festival’ was organised by the university’s Hindi Postgraduate Department.
The seminar was coordinated by Dr Mukund Ravi Das, who conducted the event, while Dr. Ajay Kumar delivered the vote of thanks.
Several dignitaries from the university participated and addressed the seminar, including Dr. Pushpa Kumari, Dean of Student Welfare (DSW), Dr. Mritunjay Kumar Singh, Head of the Hindi Department, Dr. Gauri Munda, Head of the Sanskrit Department, Dr. Kaushik Das Gupta, Head of the Bangla Department, Dr. Mashuf Ahmed, Head of the Urdu Department, and Dr. Krishna Murari Singh, Head of the English Department
Other faculty members such as Dr. Himanshu Shekhar Choudhary, Dr. Manas Acharya, Dr. Tapti Chakraborty, Dr. Rajesh Kumar, Dr. Atul Kumar, Dr. Matin Ansari, Dr. B.N. Singh, Dr. Jaygopal Mandal, and Dr. Dharmendra Kumar also contributed to the discussions during the seminar.
Earlier in the day, the opening ceremony featured a Kurmali song performed by Shodharthi Mahto and Anand Mahto.
