Kolhan University VC ends vocational teachers' grievances

Jamshedpur, Dec 12: The Vice Chancellor of Kolhan University held a constructive meeting with representatives of the Kolhan Vocational Teachers’ Union today, addressing their long-standing concerns and taking immediate steps toward resolution.

The union, which had planned a one-day dharna at the university headquarters, called off the protest following the Vice Chancellor’s proactive approach and assurance.

During the meeting, the Vice Chancellor carefully reviewed the teachers’ demands and directed the concerned officials to expedite pending matters.

Key decisions included: 

Contract Renewal: The Vice Chancellor instructed officials to complete the contract renewal process within two days and submit a report.

Outstanding Salaries: Orders were given for the immediate disbursement of unpaid salaries.

Salary Hike: The process for increasing salaries was to be finalized within a week, with the revised amounts provided to the teachers promptly.

Union welcomes VC’s decision

The swift decisions were warmly welcomed by the Kolhan Vocational Teachers’ Union, whose members expressed gratitude for the Vice Chancellor’s decisive action. Union President Prof. Amar Nath Singh called the initiative a pivotal step that would bring financial and mental relief to the affected teachers.

Union Secretary Prof. Somnath Padiya, Vice President Prof. Nazia Tahseen, Joint Secretary Sayantani Banerjee, Treasurer Prof. K.M. Rai, and Media Incharge Prof. Sandeep Kumar Officer, among others, were present at the meeting. Representatives from various colleges under the university, including Workers College, Co-operative College, Graduate College, K.S. College in Saraikela, and Tata College in Chaibasa, praised the Vice Chancellor’s efforts.

Union members hailed the decisions as historic and beneficial for the teaching community. “This is a landmark move that reflects the administration’s commitment to addressing teacher grievances and fostering better cooperation between faculty and the university,” said Prof. Ishwar Rao of Co-operative College.
