Jamshedpur, Dec 21: In a major breakthrough, the police on Saturday arrested a criminal who used to extort money from businessmen by giving intimidating calls in the city.
The arrested person was identified as Banti Guha, a resident of Golpahadi in the suburban Parsudih thana area.
Guha who is a history-sheeter was arrested from Kadma-Sonari Marine Drive along Ramjanam Nagar underground Kadma thana area.
Police recover extortion list, pistol
While arresting the criminal, the police recovered a country-made pistol two live cartridges, a mobile phone and a list of businessmen whom he had been giving the extortion calls.
Revealing about the breakthrough, Senior SP Kishore Kaushal said that on December 19 the police had received a complaint from a Kadma-based jeweller about an extortion call made by the accused.

“On receiving the complaint, the police had swung into action and had started taking technical help for nailing the extortionist. Finally, the criminal location was traced near Ramjanam Nagar in Kadma. A police team raided the place and nabbed him successfully,” said Kaushal while briefing the newsmen at the police office today.
The senior SP said on verifying the SIM of the arrested person, it was found that the mobile phone number of the accused and the number of the call received by the jeweller were the same.
Accused confesses his crime
The senior police officer pointed out that during further probe the police recovered a list of 20 businessmen, including jewellers, several of them had already paid extortion money to Guha who used to make the calls in the name of a notorious criminal Sonu Singh, presently lodged in Ghaghidih Central Jail.
According to the senior police officer, Banti Guha who was released from jail a couple of months ago has confessed his crime.
