Dhanbad, Dec 26: Navieka Jaiswal from Jamshedpur secured the runners-up position in the All-India Smart Girls Open FIDE Rated Chess Tournament 2024, held in Rajnandgaon, Chhattisgarh.

Navieka, the sole participant from Jharkhand, scored an impressive 7 points out of 9 rounds, earning her the second-place trophy. Arushi Severin Helen D Silva from Karnataka, who scored 8 points, claimed the championship title.

This marks Navieka’s second appearance in the Smart Girls Open Chess Championship. She had earlier competed in the event when it was held in Deoghar.

A Milestone for Jharkhand Chess

Navieka’s accomplishment builds on Jharkhand’s proud chess history. Dyuti Chakraborty was the first girl from the state to secure the runners-up trophy in the All-India Smart Girls Open Chess Championship.

Currently, Navieka holds the under-13, under-15, and under-17 chess titles in Jharkhand.

Her journey in chess began under the guidance of International Arbiter (IA) Jayant Bhuyan from Jamshedpur. She is now being coached by International Master (IM) Neeraj Mishra, a former general secretary of the Jharkhand Chess Association.
