Ranchi, Jan 1: Chief Minister Hemant Soren remarked that today, the first day of the new year, is a solemn occasion to pay heartfelt tribute to the immortal martyrs of the Kharsawan firing incident. He honoured their sacrifice at the Shaheed Smarak in Kharsawan by garlanding the memorial. He emphasised that, like every year, people have gathered here today and will continue to do so in the future. This day serves as a reminder to pledge our commitment to follow the path shown by these martyrs with respect and reverence.
On the 77th anniversary of the Kharsawan firing incident, the Chief Minister paid homage to the martyrs by garlanding the Shaheed Smarak (Shaheed Bedi) and the Shaheed Smriti Symbol at Veer Shaheed Kerse Munda Chowk in Shaheed Park, located in Seraikela-Kharsawan district.
A Symbol of Struggle and Sacrifice
The Chief Minister described the Shaheed Smarak in Kharsawan as a testament to the struggle and sacrifices of the tribal community in their fight for rights. He acknowledged that the lives of tribal people and indigenous communities have always been defined by hardship. Their sacrifices have played a pivotal role in shaping the identity we hold today. He further emphasized that these Shaheed Sthals (martyrs’ sites) will always serve as a source of inspiration and guidance.
Tribal Connection to Nature
Soren highlighted the deep bond that the tribal community shares with nature. From the beginning, they have fought to protect water, forests, and land. He noted that if society at large had followed the tribal community’s footsteps and adopted their respect for nature, we might not face such severe struggles with natural disasters and environmental challenges today.
Development Plans for Shaheed Smarak
The Chief Minister reaffirmed his commitment to the complete development of the Shaheed Smarak, built in honour of the Kharsawan firing martyrs. During a meeting with the Minister, MLA, and Deputy Commissioner, he directed officials to prepare a detailed action plan for the expansion of facilities for visitors, along with new development schemes. He stated that the Kharsawan Shaheed Smarak would be given a unique identity on the global stage, ensuring that future generations are aware of these brave martyrs and inspired to follow their path.
Homage by Leaders and Citizens
Along with the Chief Minister, Minister Deepak Biruwa, Minister Ramdas Soren, MP Joba Manjhi, MLA Kalpana Soren, MLA Dashrath Gagrai, MLA Sukhram Oraon, MLA Savita Mahato, MLA Jagat Manjhi, and many other dignitaries joined thousands of people in paying homage to the martyrs. Together, they honoured the memory of the brave individuals who laid down their lives for justice and freedom.
