Dhanbad, Jan 3: Jharkhand Governor Santosh Gangwar emphasised the importance of youth drawing inspiration from the life and sacrifice of martyr Randhir Prasad Verma, the late Superintendent of Police and Ashok Chakra awardee. He urged young people to embrace Verma’s values and dedication to national service.

Speaking at the 34th Martyrdom Day commemoration at Randhir Verma Chowk in Dhanbad today, the Governor highlighted Verma’s ultimate sacrifice as a symbol of selfless service to the nation.

A Brave Martyr Inspired by Swami Vivekananda’s Ideals

Governor Gangwar described Randhir Prasad Verma as a true embodiment of Swami Vivekananda’s ideals.

“The way he boldly fought against terrorists while performing his duty has become a golden chapter in the country’s history,” the Governor remarked. He added that Verma’s ultimate sacrifice continues to inspire generations, establishing him as a national hero.

On January 3, 1991, Randhir Verma heroically thwarted a terrorist robbery attempt at the Bank of India in Dhanbad near Court More. Despite being heavily outnumbered, he bravely fought, killing four terrorists before succumbing to their gunfire.

Tributes from Leaders and Police Officials

Member of Parliament Deepak Prakash described Randhir Prasad Verma as an inspiration for the entire nation. “Martyr Randhir Prasad Verma is a role model for the entire country. He will always be remembered for sacrificing his life while fulfilling his duty,” he said.

Several local political leaders also paid their respects, including Dhanbad MP Dhulu Mahto, Sadar MLA Raj Sinha, Jharia MLA Ragni Singh, and former Union Minister Prof. Rita Verma, who is the late Randhir Verma’s wife.

Top law enforcement officials were also present to honour the martyr’s memory. Those in attendance included Superintendent of Police (City) Ajit Kumar, SP Rural Kapil Choudhary, DSP (Law and Order) Naushad Alam, and Bank More Police Inspector Lov Kumar.

Randhir Prasad Verma’s legacy continues to inspire the youth and those who serve the nation, reminding everyone of courage, dedication, and selfless service.
