Patna, Jan 6: Prashant Kishor, the head of the Jan Suraaj party, was granted bail on Monday by a civil court after being detained by Patna Police during demonstrations over the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) exam.

Kishor, who was raising a five-point charter of demands, was removed from the protest site and detained by the authorities early in the morning.

Since January 2, Kishor had been on a hunger strike in solidarity with students calling for the cancellation of the BPSC exam amid allegations of a question paper leak.

Kishor accused of protesting illegally

Prashant Kishor was accused of protesting illegally. The police initially tried to take him to AIIMS for a medical examination, but his supporters created a commotion. Subsequently, the police took him to the primary health center in Fatuha, where his medical examination was conducted.

After the medical check-up, the police brought Kishor to the civil court, where he was presented before the magistrate. The court granted him bail on a surety of 25,000 rupees.

After Kishor’s arrest, his supporters raised slogans against the government. Security was intensified in the civil court premises, with a heavy police presence deployed.

Kishor and nearly 43 of his supporters were detained, and 15 vehicles, including PK’s vanity van, were seized. The seized vanity van has been kept at the DTO office.
